Super Sunday matrix clean sweep for Sospans

UPDATED 23rd April 2023

Stradey Sospans certainly had a super Sunday with a clean sweep of matrix wins for all age groups,

The Under 12s made a strong start to their matrix campaign, running in seven tries in a convincing 39-28 win against Taf Valley Tigers at Whitland RFC. Neath Panthers are next up for the Under 12s next weekend at The Gnoll.

The Under 14s bounced back from their defeat against Neath Panthers last weekend, to record their first matrix win of the season at Furnace. The girls scored 10 tries, as they ran riot in a 54-10 victory over Cleddau Wildcats. They will be looking to continue their winning ways when they travel to Newcastle Emlyn next weekend, to take on Wiberod.

After a convincing 54-7 win over Ogwr Hawks at Furnace last weekend, the Under 16s continued their 100% start to the matrix with a 22-12 win against Taf Valley Tigers at Whitland RFC. Even with several players out through injury, the girls ground out the win and now move on to a home fixture against Merched Mynydd Mawr next weekend.

Away from the matrix, our junior teams had a great afternoon of rugby at the Dunvant RFC festival. The Under 8s, Under 9s and Under 11s played games against several teams from across South Wales in a 'round robin' format. There were plenty of tries and some brilliant performances from our junior girls in a great afternoon of rugby.

Well done to all players and coaches on your wins.

Sospans aiming for a strong start to 2023 matrix

UPDATED 15th April 2023

Stradey Sospans will be looking for a strong start, as the 2023 WRU matrix kicks off this Sunday.

The Under 14s head to The Gnoll to take on Neath Panthers in a 1:30pm kick off. Their last visit to Neath ended in a convincing victory for the hosts, but the hard work that the players and coaches have put in on the training field since then is certainly paying dividends.

A narrow defeat to the Panthers in the WRU tournament before Christmas showed the incredible progress the players have made since their last visit to The Gnoll.

Sunday marks the start of a very busy fixture schedule for the girls, and they'll be looking to kick the matrix off with a strong performance.

Sospans Under 16s start their matrix campaign with a 2:30pm kick off against Ogwr Hawks at Furnace RFC. The players will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their narrow defeat in the Road To Principality Tournament Final in Dunvant.

After a convincing 68-17 win against Taf Valley Tigers a fortnight ago, confidence is high in the camp, and the players and coaches will be looking to start the matrix campaign with a W.

Our Under 12s are also in action this Sunday, as they take on Ogwr Hawks at 1pm at Furnace RFC in their final pre-matrix friendly before they head to Neath next weekend to begin their campaign. Hard work on the training field has paid off with some very strong performances over the last few weeks, and Head Coach Andrew Morgan will be hoping the players can finish pre-season with another strong performance.

Good luck to all players and coaches on Sunday. Please come along and get behind the girls!
